Our History

Established in 1968, FECOLART has been a pioneer in agricultural education and land resources management in Nigeria.

1968

Establishment

The Federal College of Land Resources Technology was established by Decree 12 as the Federal Soil Conservation School, initially sited in Katsina.

1969

Academic Commencement

Academic activities began on 3rd March 1969 for Agricultural Instructors in Soil and Water Conservation, jointly administered by the Federal Government and USAID.

1970s

Relocation to Jos

Due to mining activities degrading land on the Plateau, the College was moved to Jos to focus on land resources management in mining-affected areas.

2021

Modern Governance

With the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (Amendment) Act 2021, management was transferred to the Council, empowering the College to establish spin-off companies for commercializing agricultural innovation.

Duration: 2 Years
Focus: Engineering sciences applied to agricultural production, mechanized farming, irrigation, and environmental preservation.

Agricultural Extension & Management
Duration: 2 Years
Focus: Agricultural message delivery, extension services, and rural development management.

Agricultural Technology
Duration: 2 Years
Focus: Modern agricultural techniques, crop production, and farm management.

Soil Science Technology
Duration: 2 Years
Focus: Soil fertility evaluation, plant tissue analysis, and sustainable land use.

Surveying & Geo-informatics
Duration: 2 Years
Focus: Spatial data management, mapping, cadastral surveys, and geographic information systems.

Agricultural Extension & Management (HND)
Duration: 4 Semesters (2 Years)
Focus: Advanced extension services, rural sociology, and agricultural development management.

Students' Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES)

Practical training program bridging academic knowledge with industrial experience.

🎯 Objectives

SIWES provides avenue for students to acquire industrial skills, exposes them to work methods, eases transition from school to work, and applies theoretical knowledge in real situations.

⏱️ Duration

Minimum 16 weeks (4 months) at a stretch, beginning at the end of Second Semester of ND I. Funded by Federal Government through Industrial Training Fund (ITF).

📋 Requirements

Compulsory for all ND students. Must attend orientation, comply with employer rules, keep logbook records, arrange accommodation, and submit reports.

📊 Assessment

4-credit unit course that must be passed. Includes logbook maintenance, monthly reports, and final comprehensive report with proper documentation.

Admission Requirements

Detailed requirements for joining FECOLART's prestigious programs.

General Requirements:
- Five O'level credit passes including Mathematics and English Language in not more than two sittings
- WAEC, GCE [O/L], WASSCE, NECO, NABTEB or equivalent
- Required UTME scores and Post-UTME screening

Program-Specific Requirements:

Agricultural & Bio-Environmental Engineering:
English, Mathematics, Physics, Biology/Agricultural Science or Chemistry, and any one of: Technical Drawing, Materials/Workshop/Machining/Woodwork, Tractor Layout, Power Unit, Geography.

Agricultural Technology:
English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Agricultural Science/Biology, and any one of: Physics, Geography, Economics, Animal Husbandry/Fishery/Poultry.

Surveying & Geo-informatics:
English, Mathematics, Physics, and any two from: Geography, Technical Drawing, Chemistry, Additional Mathematics/Statistics, Economics, Computer Science/Data Processing, Biology/Agricultural Science.

General Requirements:
- Minimum Lower Credit (CGPA 2.50 and above) in relevant ND program
- Evidence of one-year Industrial Training (IT) for Lower Credit, two years for Pass grade
- Relevant entry qualifications for ND program

Program-Specific Requirements:

Agricultural Extension & Management:
- Lower Credit in cognate ND or Merit Pass in NCE Agriculture Double Major
- One-year post-ND cognate work experience

Surveying & Geo-informatics:
- SSCE/WASSCE/NECO/NTC with credits in Mathematics, English, Physics
- Two additional subjects from: Statistics, Further Mathematics, Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Basic Surveying, Geography, Economics, Biology/Agricultural Science
